xMasala Chai Spiced Black Tea.
Cup Characteristics: Rich and gently spiced, complex but soothing character.
Infusion: Deep red-brown.
Ingredients: Black tea, cinnamon pieces, aniseed, ginger pieces, black peppercorns, cloves, chicory roots, cardamom seeds, cardamom (whole).
A wonderfully rich black spiced tea. Try adding steamed milk to make a chai latte.
Black tea infused with spices, inspired by the Indian continent. Not only do the spices added to this tea make for an interesting brew, but they also add additional health benefits. So it tastes good and does you good. When the British introduced tea to India, it was not popular with the local population as a drink. However, the idea of a tea break was so enticing that the workers found a way to make the beverage their own. Often the tea, spices and milk were all added to a pan and left for long periods to infuse.
Hot Tea Brewing Method
Place 1 to 2 teaspoons of Masala Chai Spiced tea per cup (and add 1 teaspoon for the pot) into the teapot. Pour boiling water into the pot and let it steep for 5-7 minutes (or longer - the longer the steeping time, the more intense the flavour becomes). Pour into your cup, add milk or sugar to taste.
This can also be made into a chai latte by adding steamed or frothed warm milk to a strong short brew.
Iced Tea Brewing Method
Make as for hot, but add extra tea - when the tea has cooled a little, pour over ice. It is important to make it a little stronger as the ice will water it down.
Alternatively, you can cold brew the tea by placing the tea leaves in a jug and adding cold water. Leave to infuse for a few hours (or overnight in the fridge), strain and enjoy. Cold brewing will give a smoother taste.
